This forest is also home to over 130 mammals, 51 reptiles, 310 butterfly species, 27 species of frogs, geckos, chameleons, 163 tree species, 104 fern species, 1000 flowering plants, as well as over 350 species of birds such as the hornbills and the Turaco. Gorilla trekking in Uganda takes around 2 to 8 hours, which is worth it as those into hiking will have a great time climbing up and about the rolling hills, and going through the lush vegetation.

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival Entebbe International Airport

Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be received by our driver/guide who will brief you about the 5 Day Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari and then transfer you to a hotel in Kampala where you will relax, have dinner and stay the night as you prepare for the long journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park the following day.

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After your early morning breakfast, you will depart Kampala for your second day of this Uganda gorilla safari which takes about 9 hours from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park located in south western Uganda. The journey is quite a long drive but worth it because you get to enjoy the countryside scenery as you take epic photos along the way. You will have an en route stopover at the Equator crossing for photography and simple experiment that proves the existence of the Equator at that spot before continuing to Mbarara town for Lunch. After lunch, you will embark on your scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and arrive at the lodge in the evening in time for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will have an early morning breakfast and drive to the park headquarters with packed lunch for pre-trek briefing by officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority, who will inform you all about what should and shouldn’t be done during the gorilla trekking exercise. You will then enter the thick forest with your guides to find the gorillas, which can take you from half an hour to six hours. The steeply forested landscape is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. On your trek, you are likely to spot other primates, birds and rare tree species. After finding the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them before trekking back to the park headquarters. There after you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and thus contributing to the conservation of mountain gorillas.

In the afternoon, you will take a village walk which will give you a great chance to see how the people surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable Forest go about their daily lives. Your tour guides will do their best to answer any questions that you might have. It will amaze you how resourceful the local people are as you see and learn their ways and it is also a great way to support the local community in a direct way. You will then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Return to Kampala

After your morning breakfast at the lodge in Bwindi, you will be driven back to Kampala. You will have an en route stopover at Igongo Culture Centre for lunch and to explore the culture of Ankole region and then proceed to Kampala. You will then make another stopover at the Equator Crossing for more photographs and to buy souvenirs to take back home if you so wish. You will then proceed to Kampala and checked into a hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Kampala City Tour – Transfer to Entebbe International Airport

After your early morning breakfast at the hotel in Kampala, you will be taken on a tour of Kampala City, Uganda’s Capital. Visiting Kampala City gives you a glimpse of Uganda’s religious sites, cultural sites, business centres, political sites, historical sites and much more. Tourist attractions include; the Gaddafi Mosque, Uganda museum, Independence Monument, Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine, Kabaka’s Palace, Owino Market, Kabaka’s Lake among many others.

You will later be transferred to Entebbe International Airport in time for your departure flight back home or to your next destination.
