8 Days Uganda Primate Tracking Tour

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park

A tour guide/driver from Precise Destinations will pick you up from your hotel or place of residence in Kampala and take you on a 4 hour drive to Kibale Forest National Park. As you start your Uganda safari prepare to take photos of Uganda’s beautiful and green countryside along the way. You will have lunch at Fort Portal town and take a tour of the town and headquarters of the historical Tooro Kingdom. Fort Portal is small but located in an area with perfect climate resulting in beautiful and green scenery all year round. You will proceed to the lodge and arrive in time for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kibale Chimpanzee Tracking – Bigodi Wetland Walk

After an early morning breakfast you will head for briefing from the Kibale National Park officials regarding rules and requirements while tracking chimpanzees. Chimpanzee trekking takes 3-5 hours. You will return afterwards to your lodge for lunch and rest. Later in the evening, you will go for a walk around the Bigodi wetland to spot for other primates, monkeys and several species of birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Ishasha Game Drive

After breakfast, you will leave for Queen Elizabeth National Park and do a game drive along the Ishasha sector of the park that is world famous for tree climbing lions and other great mammals. You will then proceed to the lodge and arrive in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon resting, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Second Game Drive – Boat Cruise along the Kazinga Channel

You will wake up early to take breakfast ready for a long eventful day. The guide will take you for an early morning game drive in another sector of the park with the purpose of catching up with nocturnal animals retreating to their hideouts after a busy night of hunting. You will also spot the early risers like birds and other mammals. Prepare to take photos of hippos, lions, leopards, buffaloes and antelopes of various species. After the game drive, drive back to the lodge for lunch, rest and then set off at 2.00 pm for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This is the meeting point for all kinds of animals. Get ready to see a collection of bird species that could rival any you will see elsewhere. You will see water dwelling animals like crocodiles and hippos plus all the others you spotted during your previous two game drives now drinking by the water banks. After this, head back to the lodge for a rest and walk around your lodge if you wish. Have dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Visit Maramagambo Forest – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will wake up early morning as usual to a nice breakfast at your lodge. Our guide will take you to Maramagambo Forest which is famous for chimpanzee tracking and cave bats. While in this thick forest, look out for resident and migratory birds, forest hogs, dwarf antelope and several other primate/monkey species. You will then leave for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, reaching in the evening. Lunch will be en-route while Dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge in Bwindi.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – Visit to the Batwa Pygmies

You will wake up very early to take your breakfast before heading out to the park offices for briefing which is at 7:00 am. The Uganda Wildlife Authority officials will share with you information related to requirements and rules for gorilla trekking. The briefing is compulsory and it is also at this time that you get to be assigned a gorilla family and porters. Choose your gorilla family taking into account your overall fitness. Porters will help you carry the extra luggage. Now that you are ready, head to the forest to track the gorilla family. You will go through thick forest, steep and muddy areas before meeting the family. Follow instructions from the head guide and take as many photos as you can once you are cleared. Stay calm and do not make sudden movements. The memory of the time spent with the gorilla family will always remain with you.

You will only be allowed one hour with the Uganda gorilla group after which you should return back to the starting point from where our guide will drive you back to your hotel for rest and lunch. After some rest, you will be taken to visit the Batwa pygmy community who once lived side by side with the gorillas in the forest. They have now been relocated elsewhere to allow for mountain gorilla conservation activities in the park. You will be entertained with cultural stories and dances before heading back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After a long nights rest after the previous nights activities, you should wake up for late breakfast before being transferred to Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi is arguably Uganda’s most beautiful lake. It has got several beautiful islands, romantic shores and is a sanctuary for several bird species. You will enjoy relaxing by the shore-side, go boat riding, island hopping and spotting the locals fishing and rowing their boats. This is the perfect place to visit and relax after all the previous day’s activities. Check into a lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Return to Kampala City – Entebbe Airport
