6 Days Uganda Primate Tracking and Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park:

Our tour guide / driver will pick you from your hotel or place of residence in Kampala and take you on a drive to Kibale Forest National Park through papyrus swamps and thick jungles of the Nile Delta just under the Rwenzori Mountains. In the afternoon you will visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary from where you will take on a guided walk around the swamp. This walk will provide you with the opportunity to see a wide range of flora and fauna. View a variety of butterflies, birds and other insects. Have a tour of the crater region around Ndali Lodge. You may also make a stopover at any tea plantation along the road if you wish.

Day 2: Kibale Chimpanzee Tracking – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will have an early morning breakfast and report at Kanyanchu Tourist Centre for briefing after which you will head into the forest to track chimpanzees. Chances of viewing the chimps stand at about 90%. You may spend over four hours in the jungle spotting chimpanzees and there after you will return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park, passing through small towns, seeing several foothills of Mountain Rwenzori, small rivers that originate from Rwenzori mountain ranges as well as crossing the equator at Kikorongo. You will arrive at the lodge in time for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise along Kazinga Channel

After an early morning breakfast, you will drive to Kasenyi plains for a game drive where you will most likely encounter a number of wild animals including; elephants, buffaloes, hippos, antelopes among many others. If you are lucky, you will also spot big cats such as lions and leopards. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will drive directly to Mweya jetty for an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This two hour boat cruise is one of the highlights in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It provides you an opportunity to view a good number of water bird species as well as animals such as crocodiles, hippos, elephants, buffaloes and more. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park located in south western Uganda. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to more than half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas. Your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park will take you through rolling hills with terraced gardens of Irish potatoes and Kayonza tea plantation. You will arrive late in the afternoon for in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge as you prepare for the gorilla trekking activity of the following day. Have dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will have an early morning breakfast and be transferred to the park headquarters for pre-trek briefing by officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority who will take through all the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. Then you will be taken to the starting point of your allocated gorilla family to start your trek into the thick Bwindi Forest. This trek may take from 30 minutes to three quarters of the day depending on where mountain gorillas will be. Thus gorilla trekking can be strenuous and as such a certain level of fitness is required. Once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed one hour of observation and photography. You will then return to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate in recognition of your effort of helping to conserve the endangered mountain gorillas. Return to the lodge for relaxation. In the afternoon, you will go on a village walk to learn more about the local people living around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after which you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Return to Kampala – Entebbe Airport

After your morning breakfast, you will be driven to Kampala/Entebbe. You will make a stopover in Mbarara town for lunch and another stopover at the Equator crossing for photography and to buy souvenirs to take back home if you so wish. You will then proceed to Kampala or Entebbe Airport to catch up with your flight back home or to your next destination.
