11 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari

Day 1: Arrival Entebbe Airport.

Upon arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be received by a Precise Destinations tour guide / driver who will brief you about the 11 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari  and then transfer you to a hotel in Kampala City for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park with a stopover at the Equator for photography and simple experiments that prove the existence of the Equator at that spot. Then get back on the road and proceed to Lake Mburo National Park. You will arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. After lunch, you will go on an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo and later do an evening game drive where you are likely to spot a number of animals including; zebras, giraffes, elands, kobs, antelopes among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

You will have an early morning breakfast and enjoy an en route game drive through Lake Mburo National Park and then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park located in South Western Uganda. This journey takes you through the green rolling hills of Uganda with banana and tea plantations and good scenic views. Lunch will be served en route and you will arrive at the lodge in Bwindi in the evening in time for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

You will have an early morning breakfast and be transferred to the park headquarters for pre-trek briefing by officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority who will take through all the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. Then you will be taken to the starting point of your allocated gorilla family to start your trek into the thick Bwindi Forest. This trek may take from 30 minutes to three quarters of the day depending on where mountain gorillas will be. Thus gorilla trekking can be strenuous and as such a certain level of fitness is required. Once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed one hour of observation and photography. You will then return to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate in recognition of your effort of helping to conserve the endangered mountain gorillas. Return to the lodge for relaxation. In the afternoon, you will go on a village walk to learn more about the local people living around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after which you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

This morning you will depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park. Be prepared for some incredible scenery along the way. You will arrive in time for lunch at the lodge after which you will go on a game drive in the plains of Kasenyi in search for savannah wildlife that may include herds of buffaloes, antelopes, elephants and if lucky, some wild cats such as lions and leopard. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel.

After your early morning breakfast, you will enter the park on a wildlife game drive along Kasenyi and Queens Mile and you will encounter a number of animals including; lions, leopards, forest hogs, Cape buffaloes, elephants, waterbucks, kobs, topi and many more. Return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel between Lake Edward and Lake George with abundant bird life will be sighted, elephants, buffaloes and hundreds of hippos that are cooling off at the shores will be a delight to encounter. You will later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Morning Game Drive – Transfer to Kibale National Park

You will have an early morning breakfast and then go on a morning game drive in the park for a chance to spot more wild animals that you may have missed in the previous game drive. Drive to the northern bank of Queen Elizabeth National Park area in search of animals which include: elephants, buffalos, lions, kobs, antelopes, warthogs and a variety of bird species. You will then return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will embark on a 2 hour drive to Kibale Forest National Park, arriving at your lodge in the evening in time for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Kibale Chimpanzee Tracking – Bigodi Wetland Walk

After an early morning breakfast you will head for briefing from the Kibale National Park officials regarding rules and requirements while tracking chimpanzees. Chimpanzee trekking takes 3-5 hours. You will return afterwards to your lodge for lunch and rest. Later in the evening, you will go for a walk around the Bigodi wetland to spot for other primates, monkeys and several species of birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

You will embark on a 7 hour drive to Murchison Falls National Park after your breakfast in Kibale. You will pass through small towns, villages and great views of the Pearl of Africa. You will have lunch en route and arrive at the lodge in the evening. Relax at the lodge, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise

Begin the day with an early morning breakfast and then go on a wildlife game drive in the park. Your guide will help you spot a number of animals that may include; elephants, lions, cape buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, hartebeests, waterbucks, oribis, bushbuck and so many others. Return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, go for a boat safari upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of the falls stopping just tens of meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron”. You will most likely encounter a number of animals including; hippos, crocodiles, elephants, waterbucks, kobs among many others. There are a number of bird species that you might encounter as well and these include; goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant and the rare shoebill stork. You will leave the boat and go on a hike to the top of the falls. This gives you a close view of the falls where the world’s longest river explodes violently through a narrow cleft in the rift valley escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 43m below. Your driver/guide will be waiting for you to bring you back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Return to Kampala – Entebbe Airport.

You will have an early morning game drive leave for Kampala. You will do a quick game drive as you exit Murchison Falls National Park and then make a stopover at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking. At Ziwa, you will find both black and white rhinos. You will have lunch en route and there after proceed to Kampala or Entebbe Airport for your flight out.
